Today is National Deer Day! Woburn Abbey Deer Park is one of the largest conservation parks in Europe with more than 1,200 individual deer from 9 species. It is likely that native deer lived in the grounds of the medieval monastery, and the 1661 estate survey describes a well-wooded deer park. Both fallow and red deer were present in the 18th century, and in the late 1890s, Herbrand, 11th Duke (d.1940) gathered together over 42 different species from around the world to cohabitate in the park.
