This is the story of how they fared: Richard de Clare, Hugh de Lacy, John de Courcy, Milo de Cogan, Robert FitzStephen, William de Burgh, Theobald Walter, Bertram de Verdun and Gilbert Pipard. Men with very different allegiances, driven by family ties, supported by armies of knights and footmen. Within a few centuries the descendants of these armies w
