Over ten thousand hate crimes have occurred across the West Country in the year to March, according to newly released Home Office statistics. The figures show that religious hate crimes recorded by police in England and Wales have hit a record high. Communities have told ITV West Country they are living in fear, with many no longer feeling safe enough to leave the house amid reports of some people being "spat at" and "chased".
