28-year-old Gerrie Coetzee became the first South African to gain a piece of the world heavyweight title when knocked out previously undefeated Michael Dokes at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio #OnThisDay in 1983 to capture the WBA heavyweight championship.
