Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. has been deported to Mexico following his arrest in the U.S. for overstaying his visa and lying on a green card application.

Chávez was deported from the United States on Aug. 18. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that it had arrested Chávez in July and was in the process of an “expedited removal” so the boxer could be taken to Mexico.

Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. was deported from the United States and entered a prison in the northern Mexico state of Sonora, according to the country's national arrest registry. Chávez had been arrested in the U.S. in July and Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday, Aug. 19 that the 39-year-old had been deported to Mexico.
