California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appeared alongside Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin and Texas state Rep. Nicole Collier (D) on a call as they rallied their party behind California’s redistricting measure.

If Newsom's redistricting ballot initiative succeeds, many in Doug LaMalfa's congressional district could suddenly find themselves represented by a Democrat for the first time.

Former President Barack Obama is in favor of California’s redistricting plan. The former president threw his support behind the effort while the state legislature continues to advance bills to convene a special election in November, when voters would decide whether to implement congressional maps for the next three elections.
