Newark Liberty International Airport was experiencing some flight delays Sunday morning due to ongoing staffing shortages. The Federal Aviation Administration reported some arrivals were delayed an average of 2 hours and 14 minutes. The agency advised travelers to check with their airlines to determine if their flights have been affected.
Images showed a long line of planes waiting to take off from Newark Liberty International on Sunday, where there were delays of more than four hours.
A line of approximately 40 planes can also be seen in a screenshot of the flight tracking website Flightradar24, shared by X user Zach Griff, at the airport. This comes as flights have been delayed and canceled across the country due to reduced staffing levels as a result of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The ongoing cancellations come as Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warns air traffic could "slow to a trickle" as Thanksgiving approaches.
