“The Cincinnati Bengals mourn the passing of former tight end Bob Trumpy, who played for the team from its inaugural season in 1968 through ’77. He passed away peacefully at the age of 80, at his home surrounded by family,” the statement said.
Trumpy earned All-AFL honors in his sophomore year, recording 835 yards and nine touchdowns on only 37 receptions. The 1970 AFL-NFL merger didn’t stop Trumpy from averaging 36 catches, 487 yards, and three touchdowns over his next five seasons.
