The fallout continues for the Portage County Sheriff after he made a controversial Facebook post on his public page.

In a statement on the Portage County Democrats' Facebook page, county board of elections chair Randi Clites said members voted 3-1 Friday to remove the sheriff's department from providing security during in-person absentee voting.

Portage County Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski, a Republican elected in 2020, has garnered nationwide attention for his social media posts.

The Portage County sheriiff's controversial post prompted residents to file complaints with local, state and national agencies.

It is clear by public comments in the past week there is perceived intimidation by our Sheriff against certain voters,' Board Member Randi Clites said.

The groups say some Portage County voters feel intimidated by comments recently made in a Facebook post by Sheriff Bruce Zuchowski.

There was a shelter-in-place warning Wednesday morning due to an escaped inmate. He is now in custody according to the Portage County Sheriff's Office.

The Portage County Sheriff's Office won't be providing security during early voting at the Portage County Board of Elections, the board ruled Friday.
