Jackson Merrill is out of the lineup a day after left ankle discomfort forced him from the game, paving the way for switch-hitter Bryce Johnson’s first start since before the trade deadline. Monday’s first pitch is at 6:40 p.m.

It's a sigh of relief for the Padres, as at the very least, Merrill didn't suffer an injury that will keep him out for long. While the series sweep to the Dodgers stings, the Padres avoided disaster with Merrill's injury scare.
